Helmsley buried today in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
SLEEPY HOLLOW - Leona Helmsley, the embattled billionaire who made a fortune in real estate and headlines in a tax evasion trial that led to her being dubbed the 'queen of mean,' was buried today in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Helmsley died of heart failure Monday at her summer home in Greenwich, Conn., and was buried alongside her husband, Harry, and her son, Jay Panzirer. She was 87. A private service was held this morning at the Frank E. Campbell funeral chapel on Manhattan"s Upper East side where similar memorials have been held for the likes of Judy Garland, John Lennon, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and boxer Rocky Graziano among other luminaries. Helmsley also joins an impressive list of who"s who at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery: Washington Irving, Andrew Carnegie and Walter Chrysler are among the 45,000 buried there.
