Court clears way for US food deal

Court clears way for US food deal.
The FTC had called for the deal to be blocked, saying it would stifle competition and lead to higher prices in the organic food sector. Whole Foods contends that it needs to merge with Wild Oats to better compete against larger non-organic retailers. Whole Foods" offer expires at the close of business on Monday. The watchdog went to the US appeals court last week after a lower court judge refused to temporarily halt the merger. In a 93-page ruling, US District Court Judge Paul Friedman rejected the FTC"s claims that the deal would hurt competition and consumers. Controversial comments The merger has hit the headlines in recent months after Whole Foods boss John Mackey made a number of controversial remarks about the deal. Earlier this month he told his board of directors that bid target Wild Oats was the only rival that could give a traditional retailer access to the organic sector.

Typically, the house"s exterior can easily be changed and they may be so dramatic that you will not realize you are looking at the same house. You may also discard the idea of a particular home if you do not see the hidden potential. It is wise to see if rooms possibly serve another purpose, one you may have not originally seen upon first inspection. Some people spend years searching for the perfect home. It is unlikely that you will find it as the perfect home is a fantasy. While home shopping you should be realistic and ask yourself what the features are that you must have and the features that you want to have.

Late loans soar on troubled mortgages: FDIC.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation said on Wednesday delinquent loans at U.S. banks jumped 36 percent to $66.9 billion in the second quarter, the biggest quarterly increase since 1990, largely fueled by unpaid real estate loans. Rising U.S. home foreclosures and problems in the subprime mortgage market have spilled into broader financial markets in recent weeks. .

Created for U.S. Homes, DELTA-DRY Now Protects Skyscrapers in Far East
It started out as a new type of house wrap. Now, one year after its launch at a California
builder"s show, DELTA-DRY has jumped from homes to high rises. The largest application yet
for the award-winning, energy-saving 'barrier wrap' is in Manila, PH.
Toronto, ON (PRWEB) August 14, 2007 -- A new type of house wrap launched in U.S. markets in
June 2006 as the answer to home builders" moisture woes is now showing up on commercial buildings and
skyscrapers from Shanghai to Manila.
In its largest application to date, DELTA-DRY, an impermeable, energy-saving 'barrier wrap' that provides
advanced drying/drainage and reflects radiant heat, was installed this June on the new Philippines regional
headquarters of Korean shipping giant Hanjin Shipping and Industrial Co. In addition to Hanjin"s office tower in
Global City, Manila, the new protective wrap manufactured by Cosella-Dorken Products Inc. of Beamsville ON,
is also being installed on administration buildings at Hanjin"s new shipbuilding facility now under construction in
nearby Subic. When completed, the 2.3 million sq. ft. shipyard will be the fourth largest in the world.
With its stud-and-channel construction, DELTA-DRY uses convective airflow to drain and dry interior and
exterior components of the building envelope. This contrasts to standard house wrap, which is vapor-permeable
and employs diffusion. DRY"s metallic silver surface reflects back about 60% of radiant energy to keep buildings
cooler in summer, warmer in winter. Following its introduction last summer at PCBC, a west coast builders"
show, DELTA-DRY has won five awards and distinctions, including a 'Best Product of 2006' award from
Popular Science Magazine (December 2006).
Its latest recognition was in July when Home Builder, the magazine of the Canadian Home Builders" Association,
chose DELTA-DRY from hundreds of submissions to head its list of 40 'Products to Try' in its annual new
product showcase.
The growing sales of DELTA-DRY for commercial construction have taken manufacturer Cosella-Dorken by
surprise. 'We developed DELTA-DRY first for residential markets, to deal with the epidemic of rot and mold
caused by moisture buildup in house walls,' says Tom Fallon, Cosella-Dorken Vice President.
'Commercial markets were a couple years out into the future,' he adds, 'but apparently DELTA-DRY has
leapfrogged right over our marketing plans.'
DELTA-DRY is being used in a variety of residential and commercial applications in the U.S., including the
Bellingrath, an enclave of multimillion dollar townhomes on Peachtree Road in Atlanta, GA. For more
information on DELTA-DRY, visit www.delta-dry.com.

it functions as an advanced rain screen system that drains and dries on both sides, and saves energy by reflecting

Confessions of a new Craigslist addict

Confessions of a new Craigslist addict.
I"ve been hearing a lot lately about the demise of the newspaper industry because of lost revenue in classified ad sales due to free classified services like Craigslist. Now, aside from my old roommate buying a couch on Craigslist, I had never been on the site. Oh, how times have changed. My name is Lara and I am now a Craigslist addict. I can"t stop myself. I"m on the darn site constantly. It all began innocently enough when I decided I needed a second baby changing table so that I didn"t have to walk upstairs each time I needed to change a diaper. I spotted an area on Craigslist for baby and children. Pages and pages of baby furniture, toys and yes, changing tables, awaited me. I found a perfectly nice used changing table for $10, right in town, picked it up and was hooked.

Spent a couple weeks in the hospital in-country. And then medevaced to Japan, and Japan decided to send me home. Q: So you actually got out on the second one.

Real estate agents casualties of market

Real estate agents casualties of market.
Washington- Plummeting stock prices. Mortgage lenders filing for bankruptcy or shutting down. Layoffs at home builders and banks. Soaring foreclosures and loan defaults. Damage from the nation"s slumping housing market is evident throughout the economy and permeates financial markets. Add real estate agents to the growing list of victims. The National Association of Realtors expects membership rolls to decline this year for the first time in a decade. The group ended 2006 with nearly 1.4 million members - almost double the roughly 716,000 it had in 1997 - but expects 2007 to close with 1.3 million, a drop of more than 4 percent. Agents" ranks continued to rise even after the market began to cool about two years ago because of the 18-month lag between the downturn in sales and membership, says NAR spokesman Walter Molony.

Developer planning condos for fans

Developer planning condos for fans.
Following the lead of several real-estate companies across the nation, a developer is working on plans to build hotel-style condominiums in Ann Arbor aimed at fans who want a place to stay on football weekends. The condos will be about a mile and a half from Michigan stadium and cost between $97,000 and $189,000, said Mike Brenan, general manager of Brenan Hospitality Management Group. Buyers will be able to rent space out to offset the cost of the condos if the owners intend to only use the space on certain weekends to go to football games, for example, Brenan said. For many diehard fans, the condos are an opportunity to avoid sky-high hotel prices or the expense of maintaining a house or apartment near the stadium. The condos are also furnished and maintained by building staff.

Tighter lending requirements making things tough on buyers.
Good credit scores. Most people with higher scores – say, above 640 – still have a good shot at mortgage approval, and 680 will satisfy most lenders. The average credit score in Texas is 665, according to Experian. But you"ll need about 720 to qualify for a prime mortgage at the lowest rates. Sizable down payment. Borrowers with very strong credit might qualify with a small down payment or even none at all, but others are going to have to put more money down. 'Last year, it was zero down. Now it"s 10 to 15 percent,' says Kevin Miller, president of TexasLending.com, a Dallas-based mortgage lender. Verifiable income. Self-employed? Prepare for a bumpy ride. 'The guy who"s self-employed can still get a loan, but he"s going to have to have decent credit or put a lot down,' says Bruce Finley, president and chief executive of Brickhouse Mortgage Inc.

N?z: Santa Cruz County News Briefs

N?z: Santa Cruz County News Briefs.
Apparently pulling all-nighters doesn"t end with college. Members of the California State Assembly gulped down any stimulants in sight as they put what they thought were the finishing touches on the state budget in the wee hours of July 20. The Assembly approved the budget, which was over a month late, around 4am with a vote of 56-23. With procrastination like that, it"s a wonder any of these folks made it through finals week in college. Everyone let out a collective sigh of relief until the next morning, when Senate Republicans demanded more cuts be made to eliminate any deficit. With Democratic senators queasy about any further trimming, another budget deadlock was on. Republican lawmakers are drawing up an alternative proposal, and negotiations will restart on July 25. In spite of the negotiations, Nuz saw fit to sniff out a few of the consequences that, as of presstime, the Assembly version of the budget could have for Santa Cruz County.

Chicago-based Kolcraft Enterprises Inc., is voluntarily recalling 425,000 infant playpens after a 10-month-old boy was strangled to death in the U.S. The child was inside the 'Sesame Beginnings Travel Play Yard' when he became tangled in a looped restraint strap on the elevated changing table, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is reporting. The 'Sesame Beginnings' model is the only playpen sold in Canada included in the recall. No Canadian deaths have been reported. The model number, printed on a white sticker located on the bottom of the play yard, is 76361-VT. Kolcraft spokesperson Diane Steed told The Associated Press that the changing tables come equipped with warnings. 'We would stress to parents again: `Do not put your child in the play yard when the changing table is on top,"' Steed said.

Displaced Coffeyville residents face choice

Displaced Coffeyville residents face choice.
People here are preoccupied with what to do with their new ghost town -- and ghost homes. Should they pay to rebuild, trusting that contamination from oily floodwater can be cleaned up? Or should they leave, taking voluntary buyouts offered by Coffeyville Resources? Most of them have lower incomes and no flood insurance. They can"t live in their homes right now. Still, some say they can"t help visiting the neighborhoods where record flooding spread crude oil from the refinery in early July. That spill was estimated at 71,000 gallons. They pull up outside their houses, and stare and ponder what to do. There"s 64-year-old Vicki Loomis, who says the stress of the oil contamination contributed to her husband"s fatal heart attack July 18.

No emigration check for visits abroad: Vayalar.
NEW DELHI ? Indians going on a visit abroad can soon stop bothering about the "emigration check required" clause on their passports, Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi said here yesterday. They will not have to run around seeking suspension of that clause. 'The government is soon going to do away with the system of giving suspension to ECR status to people going abroad on visit visas,' Ravi said at a function to launch a digital integrated media platform for persons of Indian origin (PIOs). Under the Indian Emigration Act, 1983, anybody whose passport is endorsed with the ECR clause has to obtain emigration clearance (in case of employment visa) or suspension of emigration check requirement (in case of visit visa) from the office of the Protector of Emigrants (PoE) under the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA).

The relative location

The relative location. This will be the only factor in which you must use some judgment, and it will not be difficult. You are asked to grade the location, using the yardstick of the class of quarters you are offering for rent. This has been previously discussed. Have no fear that you can go far wrong on this. You simply decide (perhaps with your wife"s help, and the knowledge of how long the tenants have occupied) whether this location is going to suit the people you want as tenants. How well you believe they will be pleased sets the grade. Decide whether the location for this class of tenant is:
Excellent
Good
Fair.
The only time we are concerned with grades lower than this is for appraisal purposes - not for the purpose of buying for ourselves.
